Home For Good
The Voices Against Violence forums shed light on key issues faced by the community. Among other issues, participants identified the lack of a formal re-entry program for prisoners to be a hindrance to the reduction in recidivism rates in the local Black community.
Based on discussions at the forums, a team of volunteers developed Home for Good, a program for adults returning home from prison to assist their re-entry into society. Volunteers contact individuals before their release from prison and supply them with information for employment, mental health, and physical wellness resources. The project assists individuals in making a plan to reestablish them and identify and overcome obstacles to their successful reincorporation into society. Home for Good has been established as a 501(c)3 organization with Alvin Peters as its Chair.
